Living Scenes of Jiangnan

Public Amenities

This is the interior design plan for the congregate housing, which is composed of the Jiangnan-style architectural elements. The design of outdoor landscape, inspired from that of Suzhou garden, consistently parallels with the building exterior and indoor public area so that the continuance and consolidation of design skills replicate the spectacular Jiangnan natural landscapes surrounding the building.

The Living Scenes of Jiangnan is a unique and captivating interior design project by Shih-Kai Chen. Inspired by the Jiangnan-style architectural elements, this design seamlessly integrates the outdoor landscape with the building's exterior and indoor public areas. The result is a stunning replication of the enchanting natural landscapes of Jiangnan.

One of the standout features of this design is the use of authentic Chinese pavilions and Taihu stones imported from China. These elements are beautifully incorporated into the courtyard landscaping, along with a small Chinese bridge, flowing stream, and lush plants, creating a picturesque representation of traditional Chinese courtyard landscapes.

The cultured stones used on the walls further enhance the design, perfectly complementing the white walls and back roof tiles commonly seen in Jiangnan-style architecture. This attention to detail and dedication to replicating the authentic elements of Jiangnan make the Living Scenes of Jiangnan truly unique.

Spanning across 661 square meters, this design offers a range of public amenities that blend Chinese culture with Western facilities. The gym, bar, lounge, banquet room, and reading room all incorporate contemporary styles while still showcasing Chinese architectural and courtyard elements. The result is a harmonious fusion of cultures that creates a truly captivating space.

Designing this project came with its fair share of challenges. The bar, for example, required the use of marble counters and iron craftsmanship to achieve its neat lines, while the dark green walls added an oriental charm. The gym, on the other hand, utilized wooden grilles and Chinese window lattices to artistically develop scenic views within the space.

The Living Scenes of Jiangnan was completed in April 2016 in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. The design team, led by Shih-Kai Chen, successfully brought together contemporary and classical Chinese elements to create a modern oriental building that is both visually stunning and functional.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
